The place is called Guerouel Village (Tian Fu An) and is located in the small town of Chenxi in the wild nature of Shangyu County. The area is in the South-East of Shangyu city, next to Yuyao and about 80kms from Ningbo. To go there from Ningbo needs about 1h20 ride starting with the highway from Ningbo to Yuyao (about 30 mins - exit Yuyao-Cixi) and followed by smaller roads to Chenxi (about 50 mins through Fenghui and Xiaguan). Highway fee from Ningbo to Yuyao-Cixi is 35 yuans.
Guerouel Village has its own road access and private parking lots. The final few hundred meters to the village must be done by foot which is a good way to start breathing the fresh air. Hopefully no cars can access the village so that Guerouel can remain "a Peaceful Haven" like mentioned in our report title. Have a look below and click on the photo thumbnails:

We spent the night in a duplex suite including a living room, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. The suite is equipped with air conditioner in each rooms and hot water is available for a warm shower. Towels, shampoo and gel soap are supplied but bring along your toothbrush. One bedroom had 2 beds while the other one had a kingsize bed. The good surprise was that the mattresses were soft but still held the back very well although not like the marble type of mattresses we can often experience in China. The 2 sofas in the living room are convertible. There is no TV but ADSL will be available soon (signal for mobile phone is ok). Decoration is sober, cozy and relaxing. See some photos of our suite below:

We slept very well and it was a big change to wake up with the sounds of birds and a bee passing by. It was already 8:00am, time for breakfast! Tea or coffee, orange juice, home made bread slices, toasts, fruits, butter and home made jam are available. Nice isn't it? On request 1 day in advance, Chinese breakfast with noodles or kongee is also available.
After breakfast, some of us went for a long walk, others went for mountain biking while others just stayed at the terrace under the huge parasol to read a book. My daughter of 3 years old enjoyed to provide plants with water and observed a domesticated hen. Although Simon is planning to have many new activities, nobody felt bore. April is usually a rather rainy period but we were lucky as we had a beautiful sunny weekend. Landscapes were just magnificent.

Guerouel Village is a long term project launched by Simon Courvoisier who is coming from Britanny, a large peninsula in the north west of France. Simon discovered China in 1996 when he came to Xi'an, capital of Shanxi province, to start Chinese language studies in University.
For many years, Simon had the idea to recreate a small part of France somewhere in China and get the benefit of both countries he loves most. Today the project has started and many more developments are going to follow including the construction of a swimming pool, a ranch club with horses, playgrounds for kids, etc...
But this brings a lot of work! So Simon called for rescue the ones always supported him who are his sister Anne and their own mother Michèle. They are now besides him helping in lots of various tasks including...the French cuisine of course!

If you wish to spend a weekend or a few days during the week in Guerouel, better book far in advance. Number of rooms are intentionally limited because Simon does not want to turn his peaceful haven in a mass business where visitors bump into each other. Simon has many new ideas and Guerouel is developping rapidly but rooms/suites will be limited to a total of 9. This is not a lot so do organize your planning right now and book some time for fresh air and wild nature!
Concerning rates, there is mainly 2 scales (holidays/official celebrations and standard period). In standard/normal period (week and weekend), 1 night is charged 500 yuans and includes 2 breakfasts. The meal (lunch/dinner) is charged 110 yuans per person.
The most amazing experience is probably the fact that you can hear 'the sound of silence'. Not the famous hit of Simon and Garfunkel
but the silence you might found difficult to hear apart from a few hours in the middle of the night. In Guerouel you can easily hear the silence any time of the day. Cool!
Today Guerouel in China is the start for a great challenge and we wish long life to the amazing Breton village just born in the wild nature of the Chinese mountains!
